Why not 802.11g?? I guess they want to build an outdated network from the get go. <br /> <br />* "WiMax" (notstandardized) used for approx. 60% of network backhaul. <br /> <br />* 1Mbps symmetrical service will be offered. <br /> <br />* Tropos Networks appears to be a leading equipment vendor. Tropos has supplied the trial gear thus far I think. <br /> <br />Of note, however, is that the CIO talks about this like a new, government-run business that is an alternative to Cable and DSL. I think that this should be viewed more as a public service that is a supplement to those services for most and the only access for a few. I have a feeling that this government-run business may not make the best choices; as evidenced by at least the choice to use 802.11b out of the gate. Will they mesh the network? Will the APs be secured? How secure will traffic on the network be? Will the city respond to technical trouble calls (they barely respond to calls about the trash)?
